EVENT / CONCERT - SAMMY HAGAR & THE WABOS
Jul 16, 1999

The Hennepin Ave

Minneapolis, Minnesota

The Red Voodoo Tour

I just happened to be one of the 20 or so people invited on stage to be
part of the festivities courtesy of Rock 100.3 and a good college buddy,
David Van Pufflin (V.P.) who was the local producer of the show. The show
started at 8:00, so it was still light out. We were escorted on stage and
stood at a railing just above and to the left of the drummer, the band was
introduced, the curtains opened and I was in awe of the crowd. It was
estimated at 50,000-60,000.

The concert crowd really kicked in when just
after “3 Lock Box” they played “There’s Only One Way to Rock”. Other
highlights of the concert included the waitresses dressed in bumper stickers
and bikini bottoms and watching the women in the crowd show there enthusiasm
by lifting there tops up to Sammy’s encouragement. Once the sun went down,
the stage came to life, the band played scorching renditions of, “Bad Motor
Scooter”, “Heavy Metal”, “I Can’t Drive 55”, “Mas Tequila” and others. The
encore had all of the people invited on stage to go “Marching to Mars”.

The
show was part of the Minneapolis Aquatennial, which meant it was a free
concert. Sammy Hagar and his band gave it their all, playing for over two
hours. They were no doubt playing for the huge crowd with only one thing in
mind… Give the People What They Want!  They did just that and more!!!
