Dance of the Electric Hummingbird and The Superstar

March 11, 2013 by Tomigriffin

I finally finished Patricia Walker’s Dance of the Electric Hummingbird, an ordinary woman’s accidental journey to enlightenment, the supernatural and rock star Sammy Hagar. Finally. I knew the book existed sometime in the whirlwind that was 2012, I entered a contest to win one, I glanced at a copy through the Cabo Wabo gift store window, I eventually purchased a copy in November over the internet, and every time I have read the book, it scared me so much I couldn’t finish it.

Sweet & Innocent

Sweet & Innocent
BFF

Ten more minutes of my Sunday ritual “Breakfast with the Beatles”, today’s climax was a string score only version of Eleanor Rigby. “I Want You” was also in today’s repertoire which is one of my favorites having been featured in both Juke Box Musicals Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, the late seventies camp of a film with Peter Frampton, The Bee Gees and many other iconic stars including Alice Cooper and Aeromith; and Across the Universe a more poignant tale written and directed by Julie Taymor of Broadway’s The Lion King fame.

Do what you LOVE and do it some more

Do what you LOVE and do it some more

“For in the whirlwind of passion you must acquire and beget a temperance that may give it smoothness.” - Shakespeare Hamlet. Comedy would not exist without tragedy. I was not put on this earth to be a drama teacher without having to earn the woes of “outrageous fortunes”.

Mo will NOT be FACE DOWN in CABO

Mo will NOT be FACE DOWN in CABO
He's only 14

Not really understanding the procedure to go for the second chance tickets, I put my pass code in and it really doesn’t say what you’re supposed to do at 9:00 AM tomorrow. Doesn’t really matter any old ways, because what it did say is- the dreaded what I thought, “over 21” which “eightysixes” my lovely 14 year old (10/08/98) almost six foot tall body guard. I don’t think I shall be roaming Mexico alone, besides I am teaching class at 9:00 AM tomorrow.

Sammy's Light Amazing!

Sammy's Light Amazing!
Me and my son Mo
Sammy's Light Amazing!
1988 height of REDHEAD Days (until now)

It’s amazing riding the Sammy Hagar wave of enlightenment.
I was wrapped up in another world for so long that my Redhead cells lie dormant. Hibernating in the same way my “I Dream of Jeanie” obsession lie sleeping until I semi-recently analyzed my bedroom décor.

Don't Stop Me Now

Don't Stop Me Now
Renaisance REDHEAD
Don't Stop Me Now
and oo7 day after 2nd date

It truly is funny that I didn’t experience the extreme melancholia that most REDHEADS did with not winning the Birthday Bash ticket lottery.

I don’t know whether I am considered a TRUE REDHEAD or not, never having seen Sammy at the Birthday Bash, but having visited Cabo and the Cantina several times and seeing Sammy in concert several times (upfront fanatic at one), wearing RED for years and writing him a stage and screenplay based on his music, I FEEL like a TRUE REDHEAD. Lost my t-shirt in a traveling accident.

TURN UP THE MUSIC

TURN UP THE MUSIC
My RED mumu.

Here I am in spring of 1976, in my RED muumuu, on my first trip to Hawaii to visit my BFF (the one who got me my RED flannel PJs see RED to BED post). At the young age of 12 I was more into ABBA, and had always been into the Beatles. It wasn't 'till my brother's introduction to KISS, the fall of 76 in Belgium, that I got into hard rock (see beginning entries for history). But my enuthiasm for rock blossomed from there, where my juke-box-musical enthusiasm blossomed from my love of ABBA and the Beatles and making theatre. Funny how everything is intertwined.

The RED JUMP suit

The RED JUMP suit
Not Fat just a cape.

As promised pictures from the height of my REDHEADED days. This was 1984 on a trip to Ashland Shakespeare Festival with my BFF (the ultra-conservative at the time boyfriend whom wouldn't let me hang at the Rock-N-Roll clubs in LA). We are still BFFs and I just saw him last weekend and told him next time I visit LA he MUST take me to the Whiskey or Roxy. Any ole ways, I cringe at these photos that should have been burned long ago, but that would be cheating. Once again, I thought I looked hot at the time. I had a cape! And the infamous RED jump suit.

May the Ticket Gods shine on me!

May the Ticket Gods shine on me!
I will dance for tickets!

How 'bout this, wouldn't it be totally cool if the tickets were at least favored a bit to those who are on The Red Rocker OFFICIAL site?! But I understand too to all those long time attendees, they can teach us NEWBEES a few things in Cabo. (New to BB not to Sammy Hagar liking).
