VOA, wow 32 years. I can't believe how belligerent I was at this time about Russia pulling out of the 1984 Olympics -- that's what the statement was all about, the voice of America! I actually watched the video for VOA a few days ago and laughed my ass off. First off, Sammy acting (ha ha) strike one. Then, the amount of money that was spent was incredible.... no one could get away with that today! The video cost nearly $400,000 and came out of my share of the royalties like every other artist in those days, ouch!!!
Just filmed Rock 'n' roll road trip with John Mellencamp. One of my favorite interviews in my life. John is the real deal. It was really great, him and I hit it off even better than I expected.
I've always been a fan, I knew him and I could connect on some soulful level and we did. We played a song which is an old blues folksong called "Delia". No rehearsal or anything so it was raw, rough, and ready, but very cool song.
"The Red Rocker Bar and Grill in West Memphis has been open for a one year now!
We were on the way to the Rogers, Arkansas show so we stopped by for a quick jam of "Rock Candy" with a really cool blues band from Memphis.
"A huge thanks to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital for making the world a better place for children.
We are so happy Acoustic-4-A-Cure has been a continued success and allowed us to contribute so much to this amazing organization. I want to thank Melissa Etheridge, Tommy Lee, Joe Satriani, Pat Monahan, John Mayer, and my partner James Hetfield and all the other musicians and especially the fans that helped make this happen again this year.
I spent the weekend with Toby Keith in Oklahoma for the new season of Sammy's Rock & Roll Road Trip - had a blast with the interview, playing some songs, driving around in a '73 Oldsmobile cutlass convertible. One of my favorite episodes, can't wait!
ps: Warriors game was happening and check out my hat! #DubNation #Warriors #BayAreaUnite
Until just now, I had no idea that it was 40 years ago “Nine On A Ten Scale" came out!
Tonight, Monday May 23rd, Dead & Company will be playing a free concert at The Fillmore and a few days ago Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann invited me to come down to rehearsal.
We played a few songs together (see video below) and they asked me to sit in at the show, which is gonna be a blast! I'll sing a song or two (probably including Loose Lucy) and this is going to be big!!
Who is coming to the Dead show? Redhead Dead Heads represent!
Unbelievable what happened last night! Every artist brought it big time and the eclectic lineup that looked like it could be oil and water ended up being the friendliest lineup we've had so far. We all ended up going out to dinner afterwords and celebrating till the wee wee hours.
I did Jay Leno's garage all day today with the "I Can't Drive 55" 1984 512 Boxer that was used in the video. What a blast!! We had police escorts to block off the road so we could do some fun driving. I can't wait to see this episode. Most fun I've had driving in a long time wooo hoo!!! Now I'm ready for Acoustic 4 A Cure.
You guys can't imagine what a thrill it was to see Jay Leno driving my BB 512 Ferrari as a passenger!! One of the highlights of my driving experiences! The guy is a bad ass driver.
