It was a VERY hot day in June in Dallas TX back in 1982. I got to the concert early and saw the nervous scads of security volunteers checking bags for booze and cameras. I cautiously looked at them and then at my 20 pound camera bag I had slung over my shoulder and thought... No way. Two Cannon F1's, motor drives, Telephotos, wide angles, 20 rolls of film... Not a chance.

Searching for Sammy

May 20, 2011 by Flying Joe

Just finished reading Red and it brought back a lot of Sammy memories and a little frustration that I have yet to get to meet him in person and say “thanks” for all the great music and performances, although I have come close...

Performances:

Boston 1980 (Jacksonville) – An amazing performance by Sammy and second-hand pot smoke from people behind us made the show even more memorable.

Live broadcast from St. Louis 1982? (still have unedited cassette/edited video) – Man, did that stage get TRASHED! Very cool version of Who’s Baba O’Riley (love the guitar solo at the end).

A red miracle?

May 18, 2011 by Red-Betty

I've been lucky to see Sam 4 times/so far, 'energizer-bunny Sam' w/his Standing Hampton tour(Fresno/'82) then Van Halen-'95 in "BFE" @ George, Washington at the Gorge-where Sam comes out on the stage & sez "Where the F@ck did all you people come from?!"-then VanHalen again(Seattle/2004), & flew to LA to see Chickenfoot's last show. Each time is so worth it. My little Red-miracle began Tuesday when I drove home from work mid-day to buy tix on line for the Puyallup Fair, WA show Sept. 14th.

Friends who pass on

May 18, 2011 by azure.s

The pain we feel when someone close to us leaves this life is both common/universal and unique/intimate. We all know it happens to everyone, but it's always a unique experience for each of us. It helps some of us to believe the person's energy is eternal and has merely transitioned. We will always feel the bond we share with the person, and draw strength from the ability to feel such love. Feeling pain isn't always a negative experience, in this sense. Perhaps the greatest difficulty is to remain open and willing to continue to develop such close ties, knowing they will become painful.
